Non-selfadjoint dynamics of black hole perturbations

Evolution systems driven by non-selfadjoint operators present certain genuinely dissipative dynamical features, absent in conservative systems. In this talk, we use complementary time and spectral-domain descriptions of the non-selfadjoint dynamics of a wave propagating on a black hole background to study a conceptual problem for the ringdown of a binary system of black <a href="http://holes.
